Lauren and I are tabling at two upcoming holiday markets.
This Saturday Nov 30th is Wintertide in the Kingston Rondout neighborhood from 11am to 7pm. We will be at the Department of Things hocking our affordably priced artistic wears like quilts and tree paintings.
If that’s your thing come by, say hi. If it’s not your thing, still come by because there are MANY small businesses in the neighborhood worthy of your money. Come explore Kingston, it’s a wonderful place.
On Saturday Dec 14th we’re doing it all again but for the Artport Makers Holiday Market in Kingston from noon to 5pm.
Quilts and trees. And probably one really weird painting to keep it interesting.
On Radical Self Acceptance
The holidays can be a mixed bag of feelings for a lot of us. I think it’s especially important to lean into self love at this time. Meet yourself where you are. This means loving our faults, accepting where we’ve come from and what we’ve done.
Love who you are, all parts of you. Accept your mistakes and regrets. Give your body something it needs. For me this is a time of yoga, meditation, a gummy, and a good book.
Be soft. Be kind.
In knowing ourselves we know humanness altogether
In loving ourselves we love humanness altogether
Rest and contemplate this idea today. Try to just sit and be with yourself for 10 minutes.
Radically love and accept yourself today and this week. It will make the holidays more enjoyable.
Recommendation Corner
Film: La Chimera (trans: Impossible Dream) An Italian comedy drama about grave robbers told in a style of magical realism. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen but made me feel the way Miyazaki films (Spirited Away; Howl’s Moving Castle) make me feel.
Music: Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (trans: Elevator for the scaffold) French noir film soundtrack by Miles Davis. Something warm to get lost in while going about your day.
Book: Homesick for Another World. Stories by Ottessa Moshfegh. These stories are unhinged, uncomfortable, explicit, sexual, and very, very funny.
Breath work: For those who practice some type of breath work or have been wanting to explore breath work, I really enjoy Sandy’s videos. The first time I did this particular video I did not make it through all 5 rounds. It’s important to know your limit. I like to do these exercises and then turn to art making. It’s a wonderful reset for the body and mind and seems to always point my arrows in the right direction.
Love this. I’m listening to this music right now, put the book on my reading list, and I’m going to watch “La Chimera” over the holiday. Thank you for these gifts Kevin! I wish I still lived near you and Lauren. Great good luck at the fairs and Happy Thanksgiving. 🦃 ❤️🦃
